Twitter is a wild place.

It’s a jungle of incredible information and instant communication. We’re very active on Twitter and, as I’ve written on here, been very successful in using Twitter to spread the word about Folbots.

One new innovation we’ve used effectively is unilaterally declaring that every Friday on Twitter is #FolbotFriday (the “hashtag” allows it to be more easily searchable). Every Friday we announce a special deal for just that day — and available only if you call us (800.533.5099) and say “Twitter.”

We love seeing where Folbots get paddled and encourage our customers to send photos of the adventures they take their kayaks on.

One of my favorite things to do at Halloween (besides the Folbot sale, of course) is to carve up some pumpkins and turn them into Jack ‘O Lanterns. Each year I have my kids create their own design and then the fun begins.

It’s a process which starts here to pick the perfect pumpkin:

A couple of months ago I introduced you to Sean Smith — also known as FatPaddler — from Sydney, Australia.

As you may recall, Sean had a quest. To finish the 111km Hawkesbury Classic paddle to raise money to fight cancer. Well, this past weekend, FatPaddler did just that. After almost 17 hours of paddling, Sean reached the finish line.

In his own words…

It took me 18 hours, including two breaks which totaled about 90 mins (one at 28km, the second at the 58km mark). I paddled the last 53km without a break. It is hard to describe just how hard this was for me – in the pitch black, no one around, navigating by GPS, and in pain from every part of my body. Then in the early hours of the morning the problem of staying awake (I kept nodding off and waking up as I was about to fall out of the kayak). It was really a very grueling event, but i did manage to raise $3600+ for charity, of which over $1000 came from people on Twitter.

While Sean wasn’t paddling his Folbot Cooper (which he uses for nifty trips to places like Alaska), we are still proud of his accomplishment and wish him the very best on his next quest.

I just received this wonderful email from Juanita H. in Louisiana… and had to share.

Many years ago, when I was a little girl, my Daddy had a Folbot Super; that boat was every bit as much a part of our lives as the Armstrong Mudder tires for the 4 Wheel Drive Blazer, the always loaded Travel Trailer, and the pipe sittin’ on the dashboard waitin’ for a “smoke.”  I cannot begin to tell you how many precious memories that kayak created and not even the passage of time can erase a single, solitary one of them.  Those were magical, idyllic days spent soaking in the sun with the scent of plain ole Coppertone up our noses. We paddled away the hours, and at night we dreamed of being grand explorers in the “Great North.”

Though my Dad has long since gone on, his spirit will always be with me, most notably when I am in my new Yukon.  When I unexpectedly had the opportunity to purchase something that I wanted, instead of something that I needed, suddenly, out of the blue, all I could think of was a Folbot.  Who knows—perhaps it was the thought of escaping from the monumental stresses of everyday life, perhaps it was a yearning to return to those wonderful days of plain old-fashioned fun with no strings attached—regardless, no matter what I thought of, nothing else would do.

I wasn’t even sure if Folbot was still in business, so I proceeded to look you up online.  To my delight, there you were, just waiting for me to jump in head first!  The more I read; the more I knew this was the right choice for me.  The magic had begun.

To my total amazement, even though sometimes I forget on Monday what I did on Friday, when I started putting the boat together, everything fell right into place.  I found the Super incredibly easy to put together when I was a child, and I was amazed at how little the assembly had really changed.  It was like “coming home” again.

Since my Yukon has arrived, I’ve spent many glorious afternoons basking in the sun, relaxing as I have not in a very long time, and genuinely smiling more than I have in many years.  This Folbot has brought forth an incredible amount of enthusiasm and has given me something to look forward to each and every day, even when I’m not on the water, just as it did all those years ago.

Your product has stood the test of time, and I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the quality and workmanship that still remains.  It is also easily recognizable, after speaking to your people in Charleston, that your Customer Service is just as good, if not better, than it was in the 70’s—I say, “How many people can make claim to that????”

When I first saw this picture that my husband snapped of me last weekend, I laughed out loud with delight, because there, right in front of me, was the “proof in the pudding.”  I already knew in my heart that my Yukon was Magic—but I didn’t realize that I was, too.  Me and my Yukon turned the water into diamonds—Just look at us Sparkle!

Thanks Folbot— You’re worth a million to me!

With Folbots being shipped and traveling all over the world, it is always nice to see where they are paddled.

Just this morning we received some photos of a mini fleet of Coopers in Laguna de Tacarigua, Venezuela.

This beautiful salt water lake is part of an enormous national park, and a great place to go paddling with caiman. Check out those mangrove trees!
