Monday night a severe electrical storm hit the Charleston area.

This is not the actual storm, but you get the idea.

Unfortunately, the Folbot plant suffered a pretty strong blast. Our phone system got fried, the data lines are down, computers have turned into doorstops, the AC is not working… and we are still discovering things that have been affected. A major surge protector/UPS unit got so badly damaged that the manufacturer told us it had “sacrificed itself” to protect some equipment (which it did — a great product, and still under warranty!).

Not surprisingly, all this has left us a bit hard to reach.

There are lots of people working on resolving the problems and we hope to be back in touch with the world soon. In the meantime, I’m headed out for a paddle.

  1. Heading out for a paddle IS the best solution. You’ll get your perspective back in a hurry out there. 🙂

  2. Wow, sorry to hear that you got zapped. We’re all glad nobody was hurt.
Recovery is expensive and time consuming. Leave that to the experts, paddling is the best option.

  3. Thanks for all the good wishes.

Fortunately, after 2.5 days, we are now back up and running. It is shocking (no pun intended… or maybe it is) how much equipment got fried. The surge was so strong it ran back to ATT’s central office and blew out our circuits there too!
